Skills Programme

We offer the following skills programmes to employed/previously employed learners who want to better their skills and knowledge in the field. This is a hands-on approach which will ensure that learners with prior knowledge gain valuable recognition in the field.

The table below shows the different levels and what add-on courses are needed to complete all levels successfully. Once all levels are completed, the learner can achieve a diploma and can go on to eventually completing a trade test.

Level 1: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration:

Duration: 5 days

Who is it for? HVAC Technicians (service, repairs, ARPL candidates) and HVAC Service Managers

1. Principles of ARV Systems

2. Identify and install piping for an ARV system

  • Identify materials (NLRD116230)

Level 2: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration:

Duration: 6 days

Who is it for? HVAC Technicians (service, repairs, ARPL candidates) and HVAC Service Managers

1. ARV mechanical components and cleaning

  • Identify mechanical components (NLRD116233)
  • Cleaning activities related to ARV systems (NLRD116233)

2. Practice of air conditioning

  • Refrigeration cycle (NLRD261819)
  • Plant layout, component drawings, sketches and specifications (NLRD116717)
  • SANS 10147 handling of group 1 refrigerants legal requirements (NLRD116468)

3. Install of heavy equipment and insulation

  • Insulation methods (NLRD116707)
  • Positioning of equipment (NLRD116701)

4. Service ARV Systems

  • Dismantle and assembly of ARV equipment (NLRD116712)
  • Install  and service equipment (NLRD116713)

Level 3: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration:

Duration: 6 days

1. Practice of air conditioning

  • Water reticulation (NLRD116718)
  • Refrigeration cycle (NLRD261819)

2. Install of Heavy Equipment and Insulation

3. Service of ARV Systems

  • Electrical 1 Course also to be completed (see below).

Level 4: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration:

Duration: 10 days

Who is it for? HVAC Technicians (repairs) and HVAC Service Managers

1. Service and Repair ARV Systems

2. Commissioning and Plant Optimisation

3. Communications and Personal Management
